Spencer Pratt will be a "non-partisan" mayor of Los Angeles

The 42-year-old reality star announced earlier this week that he was running for office and has now dec lared that he will not "serve either party" should he win the vote, even though he is registered as a Republican.

Spencer wrote on social media site X: "I've been in the public eye for most of my life and there isn't any dirt you can find on me that hasn't already been aired.

"Seems like the only thing people don't know is my voter registration, so here goes: I registered Republican in 2020 and never changed it."

The Hills star stated that he "won't change it now just to check a different box".

Pratt added: "This is a non-partisan race - there will be no D or R next to my name.

"As Mayor, I will not serve either party. I will work with anyone who wants to help the City. No labels necessary."

Spencer announced that his run for mayor on Wednesday (07.01.26), which marked the first anniversary of the Los Angeles fires that destroyed his and his wife Heidi Montag's home.

He said in his announcement: "The system in Los Angeles isn't struggling, it's fundamentally broken.

"It is a machine designed to protect the people at the top and the friends they exchange favours with while the rest of us drown in toxic smoke and ash."

Spencer continued: "Business as usual is a death sentence in Los Angeles, and I'm done waiting for someone to take real action.

"And let me be clear, this just isn't a campaign. This is a mission, and we're gonna expose the system."

However, Pratt's mayoral bid has been criticised by incumbent Karen Bass's team - with the current mayor's strategist Douglas Herman branding it as a publicity stunt.

Douglas told Entertainment Weekly in a statement: "It's no shock that in advance of his imminent book release, a reality TV 'villain' who once staged a fake divorce to boost ratings and spent the last summer spewing post-fire misinformation and disinformation to pump up his social media following, would now announce he's running for Mayor."
