Carrie Coon insists no one recognises her when she's brunette and her blonde locks make people "see her in a different way"

The 44-year-old actress rocked a "platinum" look on The White Lotus, while she has gone for a darker style for roles in The Gilded Age and her current Broadway stint in Bug.

Speaking to Justin Theroux for Interview Magazine, she pondered: "Well, there is something about the platinum that makes people see me in a different way.

"You know what's interesting? People don't see me when my hair is dark. I would get recognised when I was platinum, probably because the bob in The White Lotus was platinum, but when my hair goes back to my normal colour, that all goes away."

She joked that her laid-back appearance also has a part to play in her being treated differently.

She quipped: "And also because I'm a mom in Westchester in sweatpants who doesn't brush her teeth, no one's knocking down my door.

"But I'm also out there representing what it means to be 44.

"It's interesting that those questions often come up in interviews with women. Things like, 'Why didn't you get your nose fixed?' Things that your mother would ask you."

Meanwhile, Carrie previously opened up on how she is able to "play older" in Hollywood because she never got Botox.

She told Glamour magazine: "We all have a way we present in the world. The perception of me is that I am verbal, intellectual.

"My voice is lower and I don't have Botox, so I tend to play older than I am. And so I've always had a gravitas or some authority."

Despite being an advocate for "authenticity", Carrie admitted she still has her own moments of self doubt.

She said: "Authenticity is more evocative than any kind of engineering you might consider doing to your face or your body.

"Now, this is not the message coming from culture. As a woman who is 44, watching myself in HD is not easy, and it's not comfortable."
