The Prince and Princess of Wales have praised the England men's football team for their "teamwork, grit and determination"

Prince William and his 10-year-old son Prince George were in the stands at the Olympiastadion Berlin in Germany on Sunday (14.07.24) to see the national side lose 2-1 to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, and a new photo on the Instagram account he shares with wife Catherine showed their younger children, nine-year-old Princess Charlotte and six-year-old Prince Louis, watched the game at home on TV.

Sharing a photo of Charlotte and Louis from behind, which showed off their personalised England shirts, the couple wrote: "@england, your teamwork, grit and determination were an inspiration to all of us, young and old. Congratulations to Spain. W C.(sic)"

The new post came hours after William had previously expressed his condolences to the team.

He wrote: "This time, it just wasn't meant to be. We're all still so proud of you. W."

And William's father, King Charles, sent a message to England manager Gareth Southgate expressing his and wife Queen Camilla's "heartfelt sympathy" following the defeat.

In the official letter shared on Instagram, he wrote: "Mr. Gareth Southgate, O.B.E.

"Although victory may have eluded you this evening, nevertheless my wife and I join all my family in urging you and your support team to hold your heads high.

"All those who have participated in sporting activities at any level will know how utterly despairing such a result can feel when the prize was so near - and will join me in sending heartfelt sympathy, even as we congratulate Spain.

"But please know that your success in reaching the European Championship final is a really great achievement in itself, and one that brings with it the pride of a nation which will continue to roar for the Three Lions today - and in the many triumphs which I have no doubt lie ahead. CHARLES R."
