Heidi Montag gets "so emotional" when she thinks about losing her home in the LA wildfires

The 38-year-old reality star - who is married to her former 'Hills' co-star Spencer Pratt and has Gunner, seven, as well as two-year-old Ryker with him - lived in a $3.7 million mansion before it was destroyed in the Pacific Palisades blaze, and is thankful to the fans who have sent her album 'Superficial' back into the charts in the wake of the disaster

Speaking on the 'On with Mario Lopez' podcast, she said: "That was such a blessing. It's so funny how God can use the hardest thing in your life to be such a good thing but just to have everybody rally around us and our family, it just...I get so emotional because losing everything is really hard. Your kids' stuff, and things, a home is not just a place that you live, it's a place that you love and it's your sanctuary and it's your memories, and it's your heart.

"So that was really challenging, but to have everyone support us and to help build us back up and rebuild our house, would be amazing. We're just really thankful for the love, and the support and the prayers, because that's what is making the biggest difference."

Since the fires began in early January, the disaster has destroyed thousands of properties and claimed the lives of at least 29 people.

The 'More Is More' hitmaker recalled hearing that the fire had started and was left with minutes to rush round her house to grab whatever she wanted to keep.

She said: "I heard about it at 10:30 when my nanny came in and was like 'There's a fire down the street'. We saw it, I thought they'd be able to stop it and then it consumed our house at about 4. So I had my son home, he was sick, he had 104 fever, and I'd been up with him for several nights in a row trying to cool his body down in the bath.

"I was in such mom mode about him. Around one o'clock, [Spencer] was like 'Take whatever you wanna keep.' At that point, you only have a short amount of time to run around the house and get everything/

"I had clothes packed for the kids, just in case it was an overnight.

"I grabbed their bears. By the time, I thought 'Wow, I'm never gonna get back here again...' to leaving, was like 20 minutes."
