Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tam's continuing its Easter Weekend rampage

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tam's continuing its Easter Weekend rampage

There are still showers in the North Island, as Aucklanders in particular deal with the fallout from last night and today's thunderstorms.

At its peak, 20,000 homes lost power, and Vector advises it could take a couple of days for it to be fully restored to what it describes as a small number of customers.

Heavy rain warnings remain in force in Taranaki Maunga and northwest Tasman, and there are watches dotted across the South Island and eastern North Island.

Metereologist Thapi Makgabutlane says Tam's still situated just west of the country, sending out several bands of wet weather.

She says we're still expecting some of these bands to move across the country overnight, mostly from west to east.

Ms Makgabutlane says in eastern parts of the South Island, the rain is moving up from the south.
