Scarlett Johansson thinks "life has humbled" Bill Murray

The 40-year-old actress worked with Bill, 74, on the 2003 comedy-drama film 'Lost in Translation' - but Scarlett thinks that recent allegations of misconduct and the COVID-19 pandemic have changed her former co-star

She told Vanity Fair magazine: "He's such a different person now. I think life has humbled him."

Bill was previously accused by a female crew member on 'Being Mortal' of engaging in inappropriate behaviour with her. The movie was subsequently cancelled and Bill expressed regret about the incident.

The actor said: "I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn't taken that way."

Asked if she was referring specifically to that incident, Scarlett replied: "Certainly, yes - that was really bad. But I also know COVID was a hard thing for him. Life - all these things have led up to him being held accountable for that kind of behaviour.

"But you know what? How wonderful that people can change."

Scarlett has also revealed that she still has fond memories of making 'Lost in Translation'.

The actress - who played Bill's on-screen love interest in the movie - said: "I'm pretty proud of how I handled myself. I really just did the work, you know? It's a good tactic for pushing through stuff. Eyes on the prize."

Meanwhile, Bill previously admitted to having "done some damage" in his life.

The veteran actor revealed that he prefers to play complicated on-screen characters, because he can often relate to their failings.

The Hollywood star said at the Sundance Film Festival: "It's always interesting when you're playing a guy who has done some damage. I know I've done some damage."

Bill observed that the real-life damage he's caused has been "unconscious" - but he didn't discuss any specific examples.

He said: "It's unconscious damage, but it's some sort of penance to play them and to show that, you know, to show accepting responsibility for it."

The 'Groundhog Day' star has enjoyed huge success in his career. However, Bill has also confessed to being "lazy" at different times.

The movie star reflected: "I've been lazy. I don't have an agent anymore, so I'm not the first person people think of to be in studio movies."
