The Football Ferns have been thumped 5-nil in the first of their two friendly matches against Australia in Gosford

The Football Ferns have been thumped 5-nil in the first of their two friendly matches against Australia in Gosford

The home side scored twice in the first half and added three more in the second to complete an emphatic victory on the Central Coast.

Recently returned from a long-term injury - Matildas star Sam Kerr was not risked due to a calf issue.

The result extends New Zealand's drought against Australia - which extends back to 1994.

Game two is in Adelaide on Tuesday night.
