An law enforcement expert says the latest revelations about Jevon McSkimming show failures with process

Andrew Coster has stepped down as head of the Social Investment Agency on Wednesday after a critical IPCA report into police handled allegations against McSkimming

Coster's told TVNZ's Q & A, he'd briefed Chris Hipkins on details of the case in 2022 - and then briefed Mark Mitchell in 2024.

Both have denied the allegations and say they would have taken action if they had known.

Lawyer and former police officer Matthew Hague says the fact the alleged briefings weren't recorded is not good enough.

Hague says police are trained to take notes so it's a basic error.
