Fatboy Slim "doggedly" sticks to Hawaiian shirts

The Praise You hitmaker is known for wearing the colourful garments on stage and he admitted he's been a fan of them since he was a young child and never worries about whether or not they're on trend.

He told BANG Showbiz and other media: "It's a bit anti-fashion. It's a bit like my relationship with the Smiley Face. I just kind of doggedly, stupidly stick to it and every now and then it comes into fashion and then it goes out of fashion and I just stick with it. It's like give it five years and it'll come into fashion.

"The Hawaiian shirt, during my career, has come into fashion about three times. The Smiley about five times.

"I think the best Hawaiian shirts are the most ironic ones. If I'm DJ-ing and it's really cold I wear a long sleeve shirt under it. I like the goofiness of it."

The 62-year-old DJ was first drawn to Hawaiian shirts thanks to beloved 1970s TV show M*A*S*H.

He explained: "It came from the TV series M*A*S*H. When I was a kid that was one of my very shows and I thought Hawkeye Pierce and McIntyre were the coolest people in the world.

"They were in the middle of the Korean War and there was this death and destruction and they were like let's see the bright side of this so over their military fatigues they wear Hawaiian shirts. That sold it to me.

"That's the interesting thing, going through the pictures and finding I was wearing Hawaiian shirts at eight, I was wearing Hawaiian shirts in The Stomping Pond Frogs. It's a reoccurring thing."
