Josh Burnett has made a late charge to claim a stage four win on cycling's Tour of Southland

The defending champion's attacked the final two kilometres of the 112k journey, reeling in a two-man breakaway up The Remarkables and winning a sprint.

Burnett says the team were relying on him to deliver this stage for the third event in a row.
