NZTA has reopened one highway after the recent severe weather, but many others still remain closed

State Highway 25 north of Whitianga has reopened overnight, following clearing of a major slip and a geotechnical assessment of the site.

However, State Highway 25 further south, remains closed between Whangamata and Whiritoa.

Elsewhere State Highway 35 remains closed between Opotiki and south of Te Araroa, and State Highway 2 remains closed between Opotiki and Matawai - isolating many communities.

Northland's Oakura Bay also remains cut off.
