As part of the change, those who meet the existing State of Origin criteria can now be selected regardless of the nation they play for.
This also goes the other way - players with New Zealand heritage who have already featured in State of Origin can now be selected for the Kiwis.
Queensland fullback Kalyn Ponga is an example.
Casey McLean, Briton Nikora, Addin Fonua-Blake and Ronaldo Mulitalo are among Kiwis' representatives, who could feature in future State of Origin series.
