Police say they've reclaimed control of a Bay of Plenty town in a major gang crackdown

Police say they've reclaimed control of a Bay of Plenty town in a major gang crackdown

Police have arrested 28 people with links to the Mongrel Mob Barbarian MC chapter based in Opotiki.

They've also seized about 800-thousand-dollars in assets from search warrants across the North Island.

National Organised Crime Group head, Greg Williams, says gangs control towns like Opotiki with addiction and indebtedness.

He hopes yesterday's operation means the gang will be out of the area for some time.
