Maren Morris was "nervous" before her first date with a woman

The 35-year-old singer - who has five-year-old son Hayes with former husband Ryan Hurd - came out as bisexual last year and she's now told of how apprehensive she felt when she first tried to make a romantic connection with another female, but was relieved to have a great time

Speaking on the 'U Up?' podcast, she said: "I had never been on a date with a woman. So, of course, I'm going to be like, 'What the hell does this is look like?' But then it was so easy and ended up being like a three-hour hang."

The 'Girl' singer has discovered she finds it much easier to make a deep connection with another woman than with a man.

She said: "My experience has been really positive. But I also have a confusion sometimes because I can connect with a woman, any woman, within like two minutes, and we'll be talking about our childhoods... Like, we will get into it so quickly. With a guy that would take like years to get into that trauma.

"But we're so good at building community out of sharing stories or gossip or whatever... It's a survival technique. We cling together out of vulnerabilities."

But bonding with women on an "emotionally deep level" has led to some confusion where Maren has found it difficult to establish if there is a romantic spark or not.

She said: "I sometimes have the hard delineation of romance versus friendship, because women can connect so quickly and easily, which is a magical thing about us.

"But that's the comparison, I guess, to dating men, right? Because I've been there. It's like, I have enough friends. I think I'm good. I'm looking for something beyond that. But sometimes the chemistry isn't there. It doesn't depend, you know, on the guy or the girl."

Maren recently revealed that she has a straightforward co-parenting relationship with Ryan, particularly as they only live five minutes away from one another.

Speaking to The Zoe Report, she said: "Our stops are really easy, and we'll have family dinners."

Hayes spends alternate weeks with each parent, meaning Maren has had to adjust to spending time on her own.

She said: "Those weeks I have him, the house is full of chaos and energy and laughter and scraped knees.

"And then, when he is not there, you have to recalibrate your alone-ness because you're like, 'Wow, this is just me in here now.' That's when I've leaned into it and not been drowned by my own company."
