Lily Allen made a 6,000-mile journey to Japan to "hook up" with another celebrity

The 40-year-old singer has revealed how she went to extreme lengths to meet a celebrity crush after spotting that he was on tour in the Asian country.

In a video Q+A for Interview Magazine, Lily said: "Well, I've only done this a couple of times and it's been quite meticulously planned.

"You have to kind of find yourself in a place where the celebrity thinks that they are discovering you, not the other way around.

"There was a particular celebrity that I was really after romantically and I looked at his touring schedule and he was going to be in Japan.

"So I made sure that I was at this festival and that I would be one of the very few English-speaking people at the same festival as him, which I guess made me interesting."

The Not Fair artist added: "Actually, both my celebrity hookups have been in Japan, but different celebrities."

Lily released West End Girl - her first new album for seven years - last week but has denied claims that the record is exacting "revenge" on her estranged husband David Harbour following her separation from the Stranger Things actor.

She said: "It isn't. I mean, I wrote this record in 10 days in December, and I feel very differently about the whole situation now. We all go through breakups, and it's always f****** brutal.

"But I don't think it's that often you feel inclined to write about it while you're in it.

"That's what's fun about this record; it's viscerally like going through the motions. At the time, I was really trying to process things, and that's great in terms of the album, but I don't feel confused or angry now. I don't need revenge.

"It's not a cruel album. I don't feel like I'm being mean. It was just the feelings I was processing at the time."

The songs on West End Girl reflect on the end of Lily's marriage to Harbour and she explained that she didn't want to sound like a "victim" on the album.

The Smile hitmaker said: "We did go back and tweak things. It was very important to me that I didn't sound like a victim, so I'd be like, 'We have to change that line. It just sounds too, 'Poor me'

"I wanted it to feel brutal and tragic, but also empowering, that there was joy in being able to express it."
