Rents are declining in many parts of the country

Latest Trade Me data shows the national median rent is now 610-dollars - down four-percent on this time last year.

Wellington's median rent is down 7.7 percent, Bay of Plenty's is down 4.4, and Auckland's is down 3.7.

Christchurch is the only main city seeing year-on-year increases across the board.

Rents are also still rising in Nelson-Tasman, Southland and Taranaki.
