Rescue teams are still working - in challenging alpine conditions - to recover the bodies of two climbers who died on Aoraki Mount Cook late last night

The pair were in a group of four trying to summit New Zealand's tallest mountain around midnight.

The two who fell had been roped together.

They were found by Police, the Wanaka Alpine Cliff Rescue Team and the Department of Conservation - about 7 this morning.

Canterbury Aoraki Area Commander, Inspector Vicki Walker, says rescuers flew out the two other climbers uninjured last night.
