A South Korean man's been sentenced to 14 months prison time for attempting to buy a rare native gecko

Gunak Lee was caught in an undercover sting operation in October, involving DOC, MPI and Police.

He was arrested attempting to buy 10 native jewelled geckos from the under-cover cops.

He's been charged with buying absolutely protected wildlife and possessing a threatened species with intent to illegally export.

The highly sought after reptile can sell for more than 14-thousand dollars, on the international illegal reptile market.
