Red-hot temperatures this week could increase the risk of scrub fires
8 December 2025
December's warm start's continued today - with temperatures for most of the North Island topping 25-degrees.
Napier led the pack on 33 - closely followed by Gisborne at 32.
MetService Meteorologist John Law says Kiwis should watch for scrub fires, with several breaking out near Tongariro National Park today, and one south of Wairoa.
He says it's worth being mindful planning outdoor activities that hot, dry conditions bring more fire risk.
