It's expected seamer Matthew Potts will replace Atkinson in Sydney on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Pat Cummins will be named in Australia's Twenty20 World Cup squad, despite ongoing uncertainty around whether the captain will be cleared of injury in time to lead the pace attack.

Cummins, who returned from a back complaint in the third Ashes Test in Adelaide but is sitting out the rest of the series as a precaution, faces further scans on his back late next month.
