Rob Reiner's family have the "utmost trust in the legal process"

The filmmaker and his wife Michele were both found dead at their Los Angeles home in December, and the Reiner family has now reiterated their faith in the legal system, shortly after attorney Alan Jackson withdrew from representing their son Nick.

A spokesperson for the Reiner family said in a statement: "They have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings."

Nick is now being represented by a public defender named Kimberly Greene.

Ricardo D. Garcia, the Los Angeles County Public Defender, said in a statement that his office "recognises what an unimaginable tragedy this is for the Reiner family and the Los Angeles community".

The statement continued: "Our hearts go out to the Reiner family as they navigate this difficult time. We ask for your patience and compassion as the case moves through the legal process, as these matters are complicated and require careful consideration."

Nick was arrested roughly six hours after his parents were found dead. Nick is facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths.

Following the tragedy, US President Donald Trump took to social media to react to the news.

The billionaire businessman wrote on the Truth Social platform at the time: "Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.

"He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace (sic)"
