Around 450 teaching and principal roles remain vacant - 12 percent more than this time last year.
About 75 percent of vacancies are North Island based, including 125 roles in Auckland alone.
Secondary Principals Council Chair Steve McCracken says maths and physics continue to be among the hardest subjects to staff.
