Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, learned "great values" from being a girl scout

The 44-year-old former actress and her husband, Prince Harry, have ex ecutive produced a new documentary, Cookie Queens - which follows four youngsters as they sell cookies to raise money for their troupe - and at a premiere for the feature at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend, the duchess reflected on her own childhood experiences as a scout.

She told Deadline: "It really embeds such great values from the get-go.

"I was a Girl Scout, my mom was a troupe leader, and I think the value of friendship, of being dedicated to a goal as you can see that in Cookie Queens, it's so reflective of how these girls stick with something that's important to them and don't give up.

"And self belief is an integral value that comes with being a Girl Scout."

One of the girls in the documentary sold a staggering 12,000 boxes of cookies, and though Meghan- who has children Prince Archie, six, and four-year-old Princess Lilibet with Harry - doesn't think she managed quite as many, she thinks she did "really well" at a time where finding an audience was more difficult than in the current digital age.

Asked about her sales record, she said: "I don't remember but it certainly wasn't 12,000! But I think I did really well.

"We didn't have the same perks and leverage of using social media and VENMO, and QR codes that the girls use these days. It was really about a charm and a smile and who doesn't love a Girl Scout cookie? It's a pretty easy sell."

Meghan and Harry differ on their favourite Girl Scout cookies.

Asked her preference, she said: "I think universally, Thin Mints is most people's favourite. [Harry likes] the shortbread cookies and he loves the Samoas."

The As Ever founder is looking forward to her daughter watching Cookie Queens, but hasn't yet decided if she will enrol Lilibet into the girl scouts too.

She said: "I think we'll continue to explore whatever feels right.

"Alysa (Nahmias, director) is a mom of a daughter, and I think for both of us working on this project it's been incredibly special as parents, as mothers to be able to see something our girls will be able to enjoy and watch as well."
