Kerry Katona has been admitted to hospital after being struck down with colitis

The 45-year-old former Atomic Kitten star took to social media in the early hours of Friday morning (30.01.26) to reveal she has been diagnosed with the painful bowel condition - which affects the large intestine and causes cramps and diarrhoea - and she spent an uncomfortable night in hospital as she had to sleep on a bed in a corridor due to overcrowding.

In a video posted on Instagram, she explained to her fans: "Hi guys it's 2.10 in the morning and I have been in hospital since yesterday - yesterday morning. It's very full so unfortunately, I'm on a bed in the hall.

"I have something called colitis - something to do with my bowel. So it's been s***. Excuse the pun. I haven't slept since yesterday, the day before. I'm in the right place."

The health scare comes just weeks after Kerry fell ill during the filming of a new Sky documentary and had to pull out of the shoot at the last minute after she "nearly fainted".

At the time, Kerry was convinced she had contracted "norovirus" - a vomiting stomach bug - and she felt devastated to have let "everyone down" by delaying her work on the unspecified project.

She also explained she'd been forced to leave an awards show early because she felt so ill and she made a swift exit after presenting one of the prizes.

Writing in a column for New! magazine in December, Kerry explained: "I've been really poorly this week, so I didn't stay at The Beauty Awards for long - I presented an award and left.

"I should be filming a new documentary for Sky as I write this, but I nearly fainted getting my hair and make-up done. I rang the producers and said, as a professional, that I think it'd be wrong to put me in front of the camera like this.

"With it being such a powerful documentary, I want to give it my all. I cried because I never pull out of anything, and I felt like I'd let everyone down.

"But I'm really not well - I'm burning up!"
