Kim Kardashian was consoled by former US President Barack Obama after failing the California bar exam

The 45-year-old reality TV star has been studying law in recent years but she suffered a major setback when she failed her final test and will now have to retake it if she wants to qualify as a lawyer - and she's now revealed Obama gave her some words of encouragement and revealed his wife Michelle also flunked the test on her first try.

In an interview with Complex magazine, Kim explained: "Afterwards, so many people told me about others who hadn't passed, and offered encouragement.

"Even at a charity dinner, Obama told me Michelle didn't pass on her first try.

"So many amazing attorneys and people I respect reached out, saying Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris also didn't pass the first time. So it's not the end of the world, but no excuses - you just do better."

The Kardashians star previously insisted she would not retake the exam because studying took up so much of her time but she's gone back to her studies and is determined to give it another shot.

She said: "Interestingly, I said going into it that I would never try again. I called it a 'one and done' because of time and energy constraints. But the day after, I started studying again and haven't stopped.

"One day, I'll retake it. I don't know when; I have to find the time. But I don't think I could live with myself if I don't try again. I can't pass up the opportunity. I didn't come this far just to give up."

She added: "Honestly, what was exciting, but also daunting, is that I came really close. I just have to do better. I'm not one to make excuses.

"I could say I threw my back out that week, which I did, but it is what it is. I just didn't perform well enough.

"I think I'm going to keep my head down a bit more next time, and maybe not broadcast it to the world. Although, I didn't really have a choice, since they post the results live online, which is crazy to me."

It comes after Kim admitted she felt "uncomfortable" and lost her confidence after failing the exam.

She told Time magazine: "I took a minute to process that, and instantly, when I got my results, I didn't feel good about it.

"I was really uncomfortable and not confident for a while."

Kim went on to add she felt low about failing, but she's determined to get back to work and pass the exam next time. She said: "This really sucks because I put so much time into it, but I know what I can do better.

"I'm pretty good at taking a failure and turning it into something and I just don't have the time to dwell. You can feel sorry for yourself for a second, but I need to take that time and put it into studying more."
