Gemma Arterton credits moving to the countryside with helping her anxiety

The 'Quantum of Solace' star has revealed she suffers from mental health issues but she finds it much easier to deal with since she swapped living in a big city for a more relaxed existence in Sussex

She told The Times newspaper: "I suffer with anxiety from time to time. I have little flare-ups, usually in stressful times. Since being in Sussex, it's been way better. Being in nature really helps."

In the interview, Gemma went on to reveal she's also more healthy these days since quitting smoking and vaping.

She added: "I used to love a coffee and a cigarette for breakfast. I vaped as well. I was on the vape all day. I don't smoke any more.

"Nicotine gum helped me quit. I went cold turkey when I was pregnant, so I wasn't even on the gum, but then life happens."

Gemma, 38, became a first-time mother in 2022 when she welcomed a son with her husband Rory Keenan and she insists she's taking a step back from work to focus on her little boy.

She added: "When my baby was six weeks old, my husband had to go and work in Vienna. It was so hard for him, the guilt. I have decided not to work so much while my son's really young, because you only have one shot at this."

Gemma previously admitted she found it relatively easy to cope with sleepless nights after her son's arrival because she's used to functioning on "very little sleep".

She told Metro newspaper's SixtySeconds column: "The good thing is I don't sleep that much, so I'm used to it - I'm able to function on very little sleep. But there are good days and bad days. People keep saying, 'It gets easier' and I'm like, 'When?'"
