Scientists set up camp in middle of Antarctica to achieve a climate science first

A team of scientists have set up camp in the middle of the Antarctica in an attempt to achieve a climate science first

29 scientists, drillers, engineers and specialists are living in tents on the snow 700-kilometres from Scott Base, drilling through 500 metres of ice.

The sediment they're looking for has never been successfully retrieved.

It will provide insights into how and when the West Antarctic ice sheet will respond significantly to rising temperatures.

The ice sheet holds enough ice to raise sea levels by up to five metres.
