The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have arrived at the World Health Organisation's country office in Amman

Prince Harry, 41, and his wife Meghan Markle, 44, travelled to Jordan on Wednesday (25.02.26) for the start of a two-day visit to the country intended to highlight support for vulnerable communities affected by conflict and displacement.

The pair travelled at the invitation of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization. Their programme includes meetings with Jordanian leaders and senior health officials, engagement with WHO teams, and visits to frontline health and mental health programmes.

They are also due to meet staff from World Central Kitchen co-ordinating food relief for Gaza from Amman, and to visit the social development organisation Questscope's youth centre to hear from young people participating in creative and wellbeing programmes.

Harry and Meghan will visit initiatives they have helped fund to medically evacuate children from the war in Gaza to Jordan.

Their visit comes six years after the couple stepped down as working royals, citing personal freedom and privacy as the driving forces behind the move, which saw them settle in Montecito, California, where they have been raising their two children Archie, six, and Lilibet, four.

Their visit comes at a time of crisis for the royal family following the arrest of the former Prince Andrew, 65, on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

In May last year, Harry lost a Court of Appeal challenge over his security arrangements while in the UK.

But the Home Office is said to have ordered a full threat assessment for the first time since 2020, amid reports that Harry's taxpayer-funded armed protection will be reinstated for visits to Britain.

Since relocating to California, the Sussexes have undertaken a number of foreign visits resembling the official tours they carried out as members of "The Firm", the colloquial name for the royal family.

In 2021, they partnered with the World Health Organization on a global campaign to encourage vaccine equity and co-hosted a high-level event at the UN General Assembly.

Their charitable body has also worked with the organisation on its global initiative to help end violence against children.
