Matthew McConaughey felt "proud" of his son on the set of The Lost Bus

The 55-year-old actor stars alongside Levi, 17, in the new movie, and Matthew admitted to feeling proud of his son for how he approached his work

Speaking on the Today show, Matthew shared: "There was an extra, sort of soul to it for me. It felt very professional doing it with him though. I said, 'I can help coach you, I can help teach you what I can. But once we show up on the day, I'm not there as a safety net.' And he showed up.

"He's not looking at me to go, 'Hey, is it okay? How'd I do?' He worked with the director and I sat back as a proud dad going, 'There we go."

Matthew was really impressed by Levi on the set of The Lost Bus. However, he doesn't wish to put him under any extra pressure.

Asked if Levi intends to follow in his footsteps, the Hollywood star replied: "I'm not putting that pressure on him either way, but he's off to a great start. He's in the door. As far as nepotism goes for me, Camila and I always say, 'Don't you ever feel entitled.'"

Matthew recently acknowledged that his career in Hollywood has been "awesome".

The actor was initially reluctant to allow his children to follow in his footsteps, but he ultimately changed his mind after reflecting on his own experiences in the movie business.

The award-winning star - who also has Vida, 15, and Livingston, 12, with his wife Camila - told People: "The first 15 years in Hollywood I was like, 'I'd never want my kid to grow up in the business.' And when I hit about 40, right about the time we had Levi, I looked around at how many special people I've met in my life, how much travel and what an awesome, healthy, cool experience that's been for me in my life. I was like, 'Where are you coming up with this idea you don't want any of your kids to do it?' It'd be a privilege if they would be able to."
