Ozzy Osbourne was hospitalised in secret two weeks before his Black Sabbath reunion gig

The legendary rocker, 76, died just 17 days after he took to the stage for his final performance at the Villa Park stadium in his hometown of Birmingham, UK on July 5 and his wife Sharon has now revealed Ozzy suffered a major health scare before the concert and she hired extra security to keep his hospital stint private because she was "terrified that people were going to find out".

During an appearance on The Osbournes Unfiltered podcast, Ozzy's son Jack revealed the star's health declined last December after he suffered a "a little fall" and Sharon explained he was hospitalised shortly before his big gig, saying: "The story, I don't think even you know it, we had him in the hospital and we were just terrified that people were going to find out.

"So we had all the security and the hospital - the hospital was amazing, they really were - the people at the front desk were told: 'Nobody, if they ask for Ozzy, he's not here. Nobody's allowed up'.

"All of that. They had pictures of all of us who were allowed up, and names."

Sharon went on to reveal the high security led to an embarrassing mix-up when a man went to the front desk and asked to see John Osbourne - Ozzy's real name - claiming to be his brother.

Sharon explained: "This guy comes up and says 'I want to see John Osbourne' so of course there's a red light and they go: 'Who are you?' and he goes: 'I'm his brother'.

"So they call up to the security, and they say: 'Ozzy's brother is here. He's asked to see him. He knows he's here.'

"I'm like, there's no way, his brother doesn't even know he's in here. His sisters, his brother didn't know. So I sent security down and I said: 'Find out who this guy is, he's definitely from the press'.

"They're not the most polite in the world, they're the most threatening. This guy kept saying: 'He's my brother, he knows I'm coming'.

"After harassing this poor man, there was [another] John Osbourne in the hospital, and it was his brother. We felt so terrible."

Ozzy suffered a number of health troubles over the years including a battle with Parkinson's disease, a long-running spinal injury and numerous infections.

However, his longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde recently revealed the rocker had big plans for the future and had even been making arrangements to record a new album.

Wylde told NJ.com: "He was texting me: 'Zakk, let's do another record. Because I really loved it when you were going through your Allman Brothers, Skynyrd phase when we did 'No More Tears', it's heavy but it's more melodic, it's not pummeling heavy.'

"So I said: 'Alright Oz, whatever you want'."

The album never got off the ground but Ozzy did finish work on his autobiography Last Rites and a BBC documentary.

Wylde added: "We did the show, he ended up finishing his book, they did the documentary, and then he was like: 'All right, I'm out of here'. He finished everything he had to do and then he was like: 'All right, I'm done'."
