Piers Morgan has been hospitalised after he broke his hip

The 60-year-old broadcaster "fractured" the neck of his femur and needs a "new hip" after he "tripped on a small step inside a London hotel restaurant".

Piers also said he will be on crutches for "six weeks" and that he cannot fly long-haul for "12 weeks" in his social media post on Sunday (18.01.26), in which the outspoken journalist shared a selfie of himself lying in a hospital bed.

Despite the horrific injury, the former America's Got Talent judge - who also uploaded a photo of an X-ray of his broken hip - seemed to be in a positive mood as he jokingly blamed US President Donald Trump, 79, for making him fall "like a sack of spuds".

Piers added: "New Year off to a cracking start!"

His celebrity pals wish him a speedy recovery on Instagram.

Culture Club frontman Boy George, 64, wrote: "Oh god. Rest!"

Fox and Friends First co-host Carley Shimkus, 39, penned: "Oh no! Feel better Piers. Looking forward to seeing you again in NYC when you are all healed up!"

And NBA broadcaster Emily Austin, 24, typed: "Wishing you a speedy recovery!! Hang in there you'll be back in no time. (sic)"

Piers' Instagram followers also wished him well.

One fan commented: "Oh my goodness! Wish you a speedy recovery Piers."

A second supporter left: "Awww so sorry to hear that. Get well soon Morgan."

And a third person said: "Oh god hope you get better soon sending best wishes for a speedy recovery (sic)."

In 2019, Piers blamed "vegan sausage rolls, Brexit and Donald Trump" when he was rushed to hospital and treated for gastritis and duodenitis.

Gastritis is when the lining of the stomach gets inflamed, and duodenitis is when the first small part of the intestine, called the duodenum, becomes swollen.

He wrote on Twitter - now called X: "If you really want to know, I was diagnosed with stomach gastritis and duodenitis. I blame eating a mouthful of vegan sausage roll, Brexit Donald Trump.

"Monday, 6.40am: I eat one mouthful of vegan sausage roll. Friday, 11am: hospitalised for gastroscopy on inflamed, exploding innards.
