Child star Blake Garrett has died, aged 33

The How to Eat Fried Worms actor - who played Plug in the 2006 children's comedy movie - passed away on Sunday (08.02.26), his mother, Carol Garrett, has told TMZ.

Carol told the publication that the family are still waiting for an autopsy result to determine her boy's official cause of death.

She told how Blake was diagnosed with shingles - a painful viral rash caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus - last week after rushing to hospital in Oklahoma in "intense pain".

Carol now believes Blake may have self-medicated to cope with the pain.

Blake was born in Austin, Texas, and he had been living in Tulsa, Oklahoma recently.

Carol told the publication that her son had been living a "good life" in the last three years.

The late actor was best known for starring in How to Eat Fried Worms - which is loosely based on Thomas Rockwell's 1973 children's book of the same name - opposite James Rebhorn, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Tom Cavanagh, and Philip Bolden.

He won a Young Artist Award for Best Young Ensemble Cast for the movie.

Beforehand, Blake starred in arena show Barney's Colorful World International Tour when he was just 10 years old.

He portrayed Mike in the production, and the subsequent video.

What's more, as a youngster he also appeared in Aladdin and His Magical Lamp, and Peanuts: A Charlie Brown Tribute.

And some of the star's other theatre credits include The Wizard of Oz, Annie and Grease.
