Michelle Williams has thanked "each and every person" who donated money to help James Van Der Beek's wife and kids

The 45-year-old actress was left devastated by the death of her Dawson's Creek co-star - who passed away on February 11 following a battle with cancer - but she's been given a boost by seeing all the contributions to a GoFundMe drive which has raised more than $2.7 million for James' widow Kimberly and their six kids.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Actors Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night (01.03.26), Michelle said: "I'm thinking about him and I'm thinking about his family constantly.

"I also just want to say, like, it's been such an amazing thing as James' friend and a friend of the family to see the response in the wake of his passing and I just really want to say thank you to each and every person who contributed to sustaining their life and their children's lives.

"It's an incredibly meaningful thing to witness."

GoFundMe drive aimed to raise $1.5 million to help sustain James' family after his death but it has well exceeded that total by raising more than $2.7 million.

A post on the page explained: ""James Van Der Beek was a beloved husband, father, and friend who touched the lives of everyone around him. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, James passed away on February 11, 2026 leaving behind his devoted wife, Kimberly, and their six wonderful children. Throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care. "In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future. The costs of James's medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds.

"They are working hard to stay in their home and to ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time.

"The support of friends, family, and the wider community will make a world of difference as they navigate the road ahead. "Your generosity will help cover essential living expenses, pay bills, and support the children's education.

"Every donation, no matter the size, will help Kimberly and her family find hope and security as they rebuild their lives. Thank you for considering a gift to support them."
