A seemingly tender kiss in Dunedin masked a brazen attempt to smuggle drugs into prison

Dianna Hona has pleaded guilty to trying to deposit nine grams of contraband - including methamphetamine, pills, and an unknown white substance - directly into her partner's mouth at Otago Corrections Facility.

The ODT reports staff intercepted the package.

The incident was one of nearly 500 contraband seizures at the facility in the second half of last year.

Hona remains on bail ahead of her May sentencing.
