People in Clutha are being urged to stay off the roads tonight

People in Clutha are being urged to stay off the roads tonight

The region remains in a state of emergency because of heavy rain over the past couple of days.

A section of Kaka Point Road is closed, and a slip has shut Coast Road.

A boil water notice is in place for Tapanui and people are being asked to conserve water in Stirling.

The Toko Mouth community remains isolated with two large power generators being set up.

Clutha District Council Controller Stan Leishman says many of the roads that're open are damaged, so it's best to stay put tonight.

Mr Leishman says people driving in the dark won't see the damage.

He says nobody should drive where roads have been closed, or on any that are underwater.
