Katie Thurston has been "struggling" with her health amid her stage four breast cancer battle

The 34-year-old former Bachelorette star was diagnosed in February and the following month discovered her breast cancer had spread to her liver and Katie admitted things have been tough lately.

She wrote on her Instagram Story: "I've been struggling with my health lately. Slow to recover. We thought maybe it was the air vents since we're using our heaters more. As renters, we have no idea how long it's been since they've been cleaned, if ever.

"Today the heating units are being cleaned professionally and OMG I think this was the culprit. Friendly reminder to check your air quality of your home and stay on top of regular maintenance! And if you're a renter like me, don't be afraid to ask when the last time the air ducts have been cleaned. There are laws protecting us and our health."

In October, Katie insisted she is looking ahead to the future and is "doing good, all things considered".

She added that support from her family and friends - particularly her husband Jeff Arcuri - has been vital.

She said: "You can't face cancer alone. You really have to rely on your friends and family. And to have someone who's your partner, who's right there with you every step of the way? It's meant everything."

Katie also revealed that her diagnosis has made her more patient with others.

She said: "You never know what someone is going through. I find that I'm more patient with strangers. If someone is driving too slow or grumpy, you don't know what they're going through in their own life. And so I just feel like I'm more kind."
