Paris Hilton's children "have been so confused" after losing their home in the Los Angeles wildfires

The 43-year-old socialite and her husband Carter Reum - who are parents to Phoenix, two, and 15-month-old London - saw their Malibu house burn down in January, and their young children have found things particularly tough because they don't understand what has happened

She told Britain's Grazia magazine: "Uprooting them from their home is hard for them. Just the act of rushing out of the house. We had to evacuate twice."

And Paris has been too concerned about the poor air quality in the wake of the blazes to let the children spend as much time outdoors as usual.

She said: "Usually, every day we get a walk in the park and Phoenix keeps asking, 'Why can't we go outside?'

"We have lots of air purifiers and masks for when we go out and we take precautions to keep them safe."

The 'Stars Are Blind' singer has suffered waves of sadness as she has remembered new things that were destroyed in the fire.

She said: "My note books where I wrote my songs. My art room with the art that Phoenix made. Every day, I'm looking at old videos and photos, remembering things we lost that I didn't even think about before."

Paris doesn't think Los Angeles will "ever be the same" again.

She lamented: "I don't know if it'll ever be the same again. It's like something out of a scary movie."

The "toxic air" is the "one thing that has made" the DJ think about leaving the city for good.

She added: "But I don't think I could. All my family and work is here. I love it here so much, and I can't see myself living anywhere else."

Paris has raised over $1 million for fire relief efforts, fostered a dog and has helped out with other charities, including the Humane Society in Pasadena.

She said: "I said, 'Let's just see what we can do to support'. That's been the silver lining, seeing people coming together.

"So many animals were coming in [to the Humane Society] all burned."

In addition, the heiress has helped put people up in hotels and then visited them "bringing surprises".

She added: "And I've been trying to do whatever I can to raise funds."
