Yet another stadium - yet another battle

Ponsonby Rugby Club has joined forces with two music promoters to challenge a rival Western Springs development proposal.

They're up against former All Black Ali Williams, who wants a new 12-thousand five-hundred seat stadium - following the Auckland speedways closure.

It's understood the rugby club would have to find a new home if this proceeds.

The club, CRS records and Eccles Entertainment want a 'Hollywood Bowl' style venue, a five-thousand strong boutique stadium, and a multi-sport community hub.

Staff will now recommend a preferred option to council, who will then decide on May first, whether to proceed to public consultation.
