The 'Canes led midway through the first half, before the Brumbies took control and kept their noses in front for the rest of the contest, holding on to win 35-28.
Hurricanes captain Du'Plessis Kirifi has conceded that the Brumbies were the better side, on Sky Sport.
The Brumbies will now face the Chiefs in Hamilton on Saturday, while the Crusaders will host the Blues on Friday.
