A push to rework the student loan repayment scheme so New Zealanders overseas, feel they can come home

A push to rework the student loan repayment scheme so New Zealanders overseas, feel they can come home

A Green Party survey of 400 expat Kiwis found 71 percent were overdue on payments - and 82 percent worry about their loan.

The Greens are asking all parties to join forces in interrogating the scheme.

Green's Spokesperson Lawrence Xu-Nan says many expats are caught out by the interest rates and penalty fees.

He says some don't realise - or couldn't pay for a small amount in their loan that's since compounded to become unaffordable.
