MetService has issued severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of New Zealand

MetService has issued severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of New Zealand

It's after wild weather over the weekend caused flooding, road closures and landslides.

The Timaru district has been in a state of emergency since yesterday when heavy downpours caused widespread flooding.

The weather also caused havoc around Wellington, with roads closed and people urged to avoid flood waters and the sea until further notice.

MetService says thunderstorms are still expected to bring strong winds and squally conditions in many areas.
