    The inflation rate is better than expected, but some say the gap between rich and poor is getting worse


    Stats NZ has announced an annual inflation rate of 1.4 percent, higher than many predictions - with hikes in prices for used cars, furniture and electronics.

    Council of Trade Unions economist Craig Renney says inflation tends to feel much higher for people whose income is mostly taken up by food and rent.
