Fruit growers are being urged to invest in more robust production, as prices rise globally

Fruit growers are being urged to invest in more robust production, as prices rise globally

RaboResearch reveals fresh fruit costs have jumped 30 percent in five years for the EU, and 19 percent for the US.

They find processed fruits, such as orange juice, had even steeper price hikes, as production regions were hit by diseased crops and tough weather.

Strategist Cindy Van Rijswick says farmers need to explore ways to mitigate risk, and boost yield.

She says that'd be investing in covers, heel-mats, and a change towards more sustainable practices.
