Wild weather is sweeping up from the south - with heavy rain and strong winds disrupting travel - and electricity supply

MetService has issued orange rain warnings for Westland, Canterbury and Fiordland, and strong wind warnings for Marlborough and Canterbury.

Hawke's Bay, Wellington and Buller are next in the firing line - tonight and tomorrow.

Queenstown's had half a month's worth of rain today, and flights in and out of Dunedin are being buffeted by gusts.

State Highway 88 in Dunedin has reopened to one lane after closures from a fallen tree and burst water main, and 130 properties still don't have power.
