The Government says a move to "open electricity" will give consumers more choice through better transparency

The Government says a move to "open electricity" will give consumers more choice through better transparency

It's planning to change the rules around electricity data-sharing, like it's previously done with open banking reform.

About two-million households and 165-thousand small business customers could benefit.

Consumer Affairs Minister Scott Simpson says accessing information around electricity usage is currently slow, costly, and inconsistent, with comparison tools relying on average usage.

He says changes would drive more competition and innovation, and allow people to get the best possible deal.
