Teen running phenom Sam Ruthe is keeping his competitive edge after becoming the fastest ever 16-year-old over the mile at the Cooks Classic in Whanganui

Teen running phenom Sam Ruthe is keeping his competitive edge after becoming the fastest ever 16-year-old over the mile at the Cooks Classic in Whanganui

The Tauranga athlete set the world record for his age by clocking a blistering 3.53.83 seconds to finish second behind two-time Olympian and training partner Sam Tanner.

Ruthe slashed more than one-and-a-half seconds off the old age-group mark - set by Australian Cam Myers in 2023.

He says Myers is an inspiration.
