Margot Robbie has recalled an actor giving her a book telling her to "eat less"

The 35-year-old star has reflected on an offensive exchange with a male castmate, which came "very early" in her career as he handed her a copy of a 2007 lifestyle guide by Mireille Guiliano.

Asked about the worst gift she's ever received, Margot told Complex: "Very, very early in my career, an actor I worked with, a male actor, gave me a book called Why French Women Don't Get Fat, and it was essentially a book telling you to eat less.

"I was like, 'Whoa, f*** you, dude!' "

Margot - who was chatting to Charli XCX for the video interview - didn't name the actor in question but confirmed the incident happened a long time ago.

She added: "I have no idea where he would even be now. This was really back in the day.

"He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight. I was like, 'Wow.' "

Charli faced the camera and quipped: "Your career's over, babe."

Margot first appeared on screen in 2008 - the year after the book was published - with roles in the likes of Neighbours, City Homicide and Vigilante.

She broke out with her performances in the likes of Pan Am in 2012, and The Wolf of Wall Street the following year, and her legacy has grown with high profile movies like 2016's Suicide Squad, 2019's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and 2023's Barbie.

The two stars are both involved in Emerald Fennell's new adaptation of Wuthering Heights, with Margot starring in the film and pop star Charli providing original music for the Emily Brontë adaptation.

Recalling her own worst gift, Charli said: "I received once a small jar of one of my fan's mother's ashes.

"It was a jar on a necklace. I just didn't quite know what to do with it ... I don't know where it is now."
