    The dead driver of a van that slammed into a forestry truck has had his name cleared


    Police wrongly suggested Storm Lacy had consumed cannabis and was responsible for the fatal crash in 2019.

    Coroner Michael Robb says the 22-year-old was entirely sober at the time of the crash in Kaingaroa Forest - which left him and three workmates dead.

    After a blood test mix-up, Police earlier attributed the crash to cannabis use.

    Robb says Lacy was blinded by the oncoming truck's headlights - and seconds later hit its trailer in his lane, which couldn't be seen in the dark.

    The four deaths have been referred back to Worksafe.
