Inflation is still running hot - with the price of food, gas and electricity all high

Stats NZ October data reveals food costs 4.7 percent more than a year ago.

The only fall recorded from September to October - was in the fruit and vegetable category.

Milk, cheese, instant coffee and egg prices all surged - along with gas and electricity.

Infometrics chief executive Brad Olsen says the cost of essential items just keeps hitting families.

He says although headline inflation might be in a better place going forward, the cost of living will still be tough for households.
