A view the Government could have gone further on changes to the building consents regime

A view the Government could have gone further on changes to the building consents regime

It wants to reduce the liabilities of councils as they're often the ones having to cover the costs of absent parties in liability claims.

It will make home warranties mandatory for buildings three storeys and under, and for renovations costing 100-thousand dollars and above.

Architectural Designers New Zealand Chief Executive Keryn Davis says they're supportive, but they think the rules could be even tighter.

She says the limit should be 30 thousand dollars so it matches up to the amount requiring a contract.
